The  SHINE Mural Festival is to transform our city into a vibrant, living canvas that reflects the soul of our community. Through world-class public art and the support of thriving independent businesses, SHINE celebrates creativity, strengthens our local economy, and inspires connection—making art an integral part of everyday life in St. Petersburg.

The RIse of SHINE

It all started back in 2012 when Tes One, the Vitales, and Chris “Palehorse” Parks splashed a mural across the back of the State Theatre on Central Ave. That one piece sparked something big—other artists jumped in, painting the 600 block and filling St. Pete with new energy. The vibe was contagious, but the vision needed structure.

Tes One dreamed bigger: a full-scale mural festival that would put St. Pete on the map. With support from John Collins at the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance and city arts leaders, planning took off. A powerhouse crew of local creatives, curators, and community champions came together, hustling through countless meetings to bring the idea to life.

In 2015, the very first SHINE Mural Festival lit up the city. Walls turned into canvases. Neighbors gathered. Skeptics quickly became believers as they watched world-class artists transform the streets into living, breathing art. What once looked like “graffiti” became a point of pride, proving the power of paint to change not just walls, but spirits.

Over the years, SHINE grew into one of Tampa Bay’s most iconic cultural events. With Jenee Priebe stepping in to guide the festival, the team doubled down on community impact—launching Bright Spots, partnering with local nonprofits, and weaving more voices into the fabric of the city.

Fast forward a decade and 150+ murals later: SHINE has survived hurricanes, the pandemic, and plenty of growing pains—but it never stopped shining. Today, more than 21 countries have left their mark here, creating a constantly evolving open-air gallery that defines St. Pete’s creative soul.

As Tes One puts it: “The entire concept of SHINE from the beginning has been simple, yet very powerful—to be a gift of public art to St. Petersburg.”
